Embossing.-In making seamless cup-shaped articles, such as box lids, by stamping from paper and similar fibrous materials, the material is first treated on one or both sides with a solution which first softens the fibres to make them fold and weld easier, and cements the folds together and hardens the fibres as the material dries. A solution of silicate of zinc and soda diluted to about 15‹-20‹ BÚ., or other liquids, may be used. When the rims of the lids are to be drawn inwards from the perpendicular position, the rim part only is damped.
